What Makes Something Green? – National Post

Posted 10 June 2009 by Jacob Malthouse to Ecolabel News.

According to a recent article in the National Post, one of the best ways to figure out if a product is green is to do some online research to look for negative press. If you can’t find any, it’s probably good.

While this isn’t exactly rigorous, it’s not a bad hack. We think most people will be too busy to actually do something like this, and recommend choosing some of the best labels on Ecolabelling.org as your point of reference when you make green choices.

Look for labels with lots of certifications, third party verification, and who participate in international initiatives. Good examples are labels like FSC, MSC, Ecologo, Energy Star, and USDA or Canada Organic.

Make a label favourites list and going green gets a whole lot easier.
